So I am posing a question to everyone that is willing to take part in this discussion, and that question is "Why is science important"? Why is it important in life and in our search for understanding that which is currently unknown.
To go even further, do you feel that the evolution and growth of the paranormal research field is dependent on faith in the belief of ghosts and whatever other form of supernatural phenomena you study or is science necessary to determine what, if anything, has validity behind the experiences?
To answer my own questions, Science in its most basic generality is the method in which we understand the world around us. Science helps us with our daily lives, advances our knowledge and helps build civilizations to new heights. Without science, we would most likely still be very primitive in our thinking and cultures. Science is important in paranormal research because it helps us to sort through the fact from the fallacies. Many argue that science is biased and that it does not support for outside ways of thinking. This is a fallacious way of thinking about science, since the very notion of science is dependent on disproving earlier theories and what was considered common knowledge. Science when properly utilized is a very neutral methodology in which the answers to the questions we are seeking are sometimes different than the answers we expected.
We need science to advance in our lives and in this field. Without it, we are never going to find any truth.
