A Response to Kirby Robinson

I received an email from Kirby Robinson the other day and while I was just going to delete it, I decided after a couple days to actually respond to him one final time, not anonymously as he wanted me to, but publicly. For those that are unaware, Mr. Robinson made it his own personal agenda, for one reason or another, to try and prove that Paranormal State was fake, regardless of what countless people said otherwise, including many clients. I have nothing and never had anything to hide about my involvement with the show, and everything I told him previously has not changed.

Here is the email from Mr. Kirby Robinson

Seeking Comments About Paranormal State

Dear Topher,

I am the author of the forthcoming non-fiction book “Paranormal Lies” which exposes the deceptions of fake paranormal shows like “Paranormal State.” These shows present themselves as being dedicated to seeking the truth concerning the paranormal world. They claim to help individuals who have issues with severe paranormal activity within their lives.

However, due to our research, we are aware that much of these shows are faked, with the sole purpose of promoting the para-celebrities who appear on them. In this book we break down each and every episode of “Paranormal State” in great detail. We explain how the scenes are staged, evidence is faked, and prove the continuity errors aren’t editorial gaffes. We use Ryan Buell’s book, “My Paranormal Journey” to expose the lies and deceptions the cast, crew and producers of the show take part in. By the end of the book readers will realize that they have been deceived for the past five years.

You have appeared at least once on “Paranormal State” and prior to the release of my book, We are offering you a chance to comment about your work or role within the production of the show. You may choose to do this anonymously and be assured that you will be replying to any question/s in confidence. This is done to be fair, honest and impartial. We wish to submit the final draft to the publisher knowing that we have a work that is filled with facts, integrity and truth.

1 Did you act in any deceptive manner during your appearance/appearances on the show?

2 If you answered yes to the first question, do you now regret doing so?

3 Did you ever witness or hear anyone on the set talk about distorting facts, events, etc. for the benefit of ratings?

4 Were you given information about the case prior to your appearance on the show?

5 Were you present when scenes were reshot or staged for the benefit of creating a more intriguing storyline?

If you regret being part of any paranormal program mentioned in our forthcoming book and wish to provide confidential information concerning the show and your work on it you will be quoted anonymously. Your confidence is guaranteed.

Thank you,
Kirby Robinson

Since Mr. Robinson would like to write a book, I am going to make sure that he doesn’t misquote me in any way, shape, or form simply because I do not trust him to offer the truth in what I state. So I am responding publicly with one final response to Mr. Robinson.

1 Did you act in any deceptive manner during your appearance/appearances on the show?
Never once have I ever been involved with any deception during my appearances on the show. The show itself only showed a fraction of what I actually did with the show, the majority edited out. So to reiterate, no, I have never done anything deceptive or acted deceptively on the show for any reason, nor has anyone else that I am aware while I was involved with the show.  While over the course of the 3 seasons I was with Paranormal State and PRS, there were many inaccuracies that came about from the show from an editing standpoint, they were never deliberately done by any cast or PRS member during my time with PRS.

2 If you answered yes to the first question, do you now regret doing so?
Does Not Apply

3 Did you ever witness or hear anyone on the set talk about distorting facts, events, etc. for the benefit of ratings?

Not once. Believe it or not, most of the cast and crew were concerned about the case at hand rather than selling the show for ratings. Regardless of what you choose to believe, the show actually featured real cases with real investigations. If that still holds true to this day, I do not know, as I have not been involved with PRS since the end of 2008.

4 Were you given information about the case prior to your appearance on the show?
Yes, most of the time information was collected prior to an investigation. Background research is typically done in most cases prior to an investigation. Interviews, lead building, fact collecting, etc were all collected prior to the case, then on the investigation, onsite data collection and continuing interviews were conducted. Not everyone involved in the cases were given all the information either. Some were left kind of clueless about the cases often. The information gathered was never shared with any of the “psychics” from PRS, but I will be honest and say that I have suspected that information about the case may have been leaked by production to the psychics. That is only my opinion, and while I was there, none of this could have been proven.

5 Were you present when scenes were reshot or staged for the benefit of creating a more intriguing storyline?
At no time while I was on the show was anything reshot or staged to create a more intriguing storyline. All of the investigations were shot as is while I was with the show.

I am sure that this is not what you wanted to hear or see Mr. Robinson, as I am sure you were expecting a little bit more dirt on the group since I openly discuss my displeasure for the show. My disagreements and reasoning for leaving the group and organization were more personal and involved my dislike for how people were treated in the group rather than that it was being deceitful. There were many episodes that were edited in such ways that I completely disagreed with and were not accurately depicting how the investigation took place, however, that was not the organization, but rather production that manipulated those, and by the time I left, those types of instances were ended after consistent complaints by PRS to the editors. I disagree with many things that PRS does, I dislike that the show has moved to be about Ryan and his overgrown ego, but the PRS group has always attempted to operate with integrity and honesty. That is something I hope continued after I left.

You may choose to ignore this for your book, which I suspect will be the case. I see that you want to fill it with truth and facts, but from experience, you often ignored anyone that told you the truth simply because it wasn’t what you wanted to see or believed. I would rather this be publicly displayed so that people like you, cannot take what was written and misconstrue it in any way, as well as they deserve to know that your book has omitted facts and statements. Had you come to me to write about how Ryan is a real person and how he treats his investigators and team, it would have been a very different outlook, but you came to me for the same bullshit you have been digging for since the very beginning…that has, as far as I know, never been there.

Good Luck with your book, I will be sure to pick it up at the bargain and closeout section for $1.

Hmmm...if the tables were turned, Kirby would claim that you were some paid off crony or actually one of Kirby's staff.

I do love that you decided to peddle your book in the midst of trying to defend Kirby. I am not interested in reading about the delusions that Kirby has fed you and caused you to believe. I am not sure how many educated demonologists you have met, I would assume very little to place Kirby at the top of that list.

Thank you for stopping by the page, and while I appreciate you defending someone you believe to be genuine. My opinion of Kirby remains exactly as it always has.
